In Tim Ferriss’ first podcast with Kevin Kelly, Kevin talks about how the Amish make it a goal to have as many meals with their family as possible. This resonated with me, especially being about to have my first child.

It’s a different type of goal, one that’s not focused on maximizing productivity. Productivity is great in context – if you are working, you should absolutely try to be as productive as possible. If you are doing something, you should strive to do it better (harder, better, faster, stronger… [Daft Punk]). We’re not robots though. Productivity isn’t everything. A great life involves more, meaning derived from relationships.

I love this idea of emphasis on the value and importance of sharing family meals. It’s as worthy of tracking and prioritizing as a fitness goal or career progression.
