The AND: Appreciating what you have AND striving for more

Series Introduction

The AND series is about thinking through how two seemingly conflicting concepts can both be true. It’s easy to hear a quote and believe it’s true but feel uncertain how to live it out. Or to be confused on how to reconcile it with another saying or belief. Context is key to truth.

Appreciate what you have

The fastest path to happiness is recognizing and appreciating what you already have. If you don’t appreciate what you have you never will. Wanting less is more sustainable than feeling like you always need more. Requiring little to be happy in this way is a form of defense.

Strive for more

There is merit to dreaming big and striving for more. Believing you can achieve great things and help others do the same. Seeking to improve and grow. Wanting the best possible life for your loved ones. This is offense.

The AND

How are they both true? You can be grateful for and recognize what you have while also relentlessly striving for more. Being satisfied with your life AND believing things can become even better. They don’t need to get better – but they can and it’s a worthy pursuit.
