There are two different sources from which I recently heard this concept of reality based dreams. One is the book Principles by Ray Dalio which I’m reading currently (which my amazing wife recently bought for me). The other was a podcast of Ed Mylett’s with John Maxwell.

The premise is exactly as it sounds – that you should embrace reality first when coming up with dreams. Said another way, that your dreams are not disconnected from truth. You have to know where you are to map out where you want to go.

I like this idea because I’ve always struggled to be a dreamer. I’m more of a realist and tend to have more self limiting beliefs than expansive beliefs. It’s difficult for me to believe in an amazing dream because I feel they’re unrealistic. This was what I needed to hear to be encouraged that you can still be practical in chasing after dreams. You can come up with dreams that are still incredible, but have a foundation in reality, which makes them much more likely to be realized.

Take little steps towards big dreams every day.
