How quickly I bounce back is one of the key metrics I’ve been focused on recently. I will never stop making mistakes. I will never attain perfection. But I can control how quickly I process the negative reaction, learn from, and move forward out of mistakes. This to me is resilience. Resilience is needed in both minor and major scenarios.
Arriving late to work or to a meeting is something I’ve been guilty of and what I would consider a minor scenario. Make a mental note to prioritize being punctual going forward.
A more major scenario to learn from would be mistreating or failing to prioritize a loved one like your spouse. I haven’t always done the best job on birthdays or Valentine’s Days. these types of failures elicit a stronger negative feeling for me.
When you feel (as opposed to ignore) the appropriate emotion (perhaps disappointment or frustration) but do not dwell on it, when you can detach and understand what you did wrong, and in that moment, commit to improving and change how you act, this is what makes you unstoppable.
Stay resilient. Keep taking risks. Always be learning.
