We spend a huge portion of our lives working. This is how life has always been. Therefore what work we do is incredibly important.

What makes the work itself important? Is it the necessity of the work? The benefit it brings to the world? How many people are impacted or how impacted those people are? Is work today valuable that will soon be replaced by far more effective and efficient means of doing it?

Or is what’s important simply that whatever you do provides a living for your family? We might want to feel we’ve had some lasting impact on the world, but the first priority is to provide for the family. Can we do both?

Choosing important work matters. But there are layers to it. Even if you find the work itself not to be important, you can still prioritize the most important elements of it.

What we do matters. Never lose sight of that.
